UNWTO Recommendations on Youth Travel

UNWTO Recommendations on Youth Travel

With the groundwork prepared with the 2012 San Diego Declaration on Youth, Student and Educational Travel, and following lobbying from numerous Member States, UNWTO put forward its own Recommendations on Youth Travel for endorsement by all Member States at its 20th General Assembly in Victoria Falls in August 2013.

When tourism policymakers put together strategic plans for the years ahead, it helps to be informed by recommendations from organisations like UNWTO. While the recommendations aren’t binding, they do provide some good guidelines for destinations on which to build their own policy on youth travel and address problem areas. I’m proud to have been part of the process that took a whole bunch of tweets, emails and written notes from youth travel stakeholders at WYSTC San Diego to become a formal document endorsed by UN Member States.
